Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena vs. Seth Rollins: 2015 Royal Rumble Winner, Reaction

Published by Bleacher Report on Mon, 26 Jan 2015

Despite being forced to face two of the top Superstars WWE has to offer at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, Brock Lesnar retained the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Sunday night in a Triple Threat match against John Cena and Seth Rollins.WWE captured a photo of the champ:Things looked bleak for Lesnar when EMT's had to tend to him ringside:But ultimately Lesnar prevailed by pinning Rollins with an F-5 in what was a match for the ages. Both Wrestling Reaction and WrestlingINC.com approved of the action:WWE legend Iron Sheik put it simply:WWE author Kevin Sullivan contemplates what may be on the horizon for Lesnar:Lesnar initially beat Cena for the title in dominant fashion at SummerSlam. He lost a rematch at Night of Champions by disqualification when Rollins got involved, and he was supposed to take on Cena for a third time at the Rumble. That plan ultimately changed a few weeks prior to the event, however, as The Authority regained power and added Mr. Money in the Bank to the match in order to make it a Triple Threat. The Authority's decision certainly threw a wrench into the match and changed the complexion completely. Lesnar's advocate, Paul Heyman, wasn't pleased about The Beast Incarnate being placed in an extremely difficult position, according to WWE Universe on Twitter:Even so, Lesnar vowed dominate Rollins just as he had Cena and Triple H previously, per WWE Universe:Rollins' inclusion added an intriguing variable due to his history with both Lesnar and Cena. While Rollins and Cena have been feuding for quite some time, Lesnar has had his issues with The Authority's pet project as well. The Money in the Bank holder tried to cash in his contract on The Conquerer at Night of Champions; however, Cena stopped that from happening. The two heel Superstars eventually made amends, though, when Lesnar helped Rollins beat Cena in a steel cage match on Raw.Despite already having a guaranteed WWE World Heavyweight Championship match due to the Money in the Bank contract, Rollins had a golden opportunity to cement himself as a main event star at Royal Rumble. It would have been a true crowning moment on the heels of Rollins' self-recognized rapid ascent over the past year, according to WWE Universe:There was plenty riding on the match from Cena's perspective as well. In addition to trying to get revenge on Lesnar for his one-sided loss at SummerSlam, Cena undoubtedly wanted to take out Rollins as well for forcing him to bring back The Authority. On top of all that, Cena had a chance to make history by tying Ric Flair with his 16th world title reign. With that in mind, Cena's sights were firmly set on taking back the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, per WWE Universe:That didn't come to fruition, though, as Lesnar once again got the better of Cena. Sunday's result certainly sets the stage for an interesting road to WrestleMania for all three combatants.Lesnar figures to defend the world title in the main event at WrestleMania XXXI, although things are bit murkier for Cena and Rollins. They will undoubtedly be important parts of the event, but the next couple months will determine how big of a role they will ultimately play.In the end, WWE decided to take it this far with Lesnar as world champion despite the fact that his appearances are infrequent. Because of that, it made sense to take this angle all the way to WrestleMania as well.Follow @MikeChiari on Twitter
