2015 Copa America Schedule: Preview and Predictions for Saturday's Final

Published by Bleacher Report on Wed, 01 Jul 2015

Argentina's dismantling of Paraguay in the 2015 Copa America semifinals has revealed the second half of the competition's final, with the winners to take on hosts Chile.Chile booked its place to the final after its quarterfinal victory over defending champions Uruguay and a semifinal triumph over Peru. Before Argentina's decisive win over Paraguay, it needed penalties against Colombia to advance.Continue below for the competition's final schedule and an early look at the championship match:Argentina has all the momentum entering the Copa America final after putting up six goals on the 2011 finalists, Paraguay. It has not won the Copa America since it repeated as champions in 1991 and 1993.It is playing a Chile side that has never won the Copa America and has not made the final since 1987. But the Argentinians have a nation behind them. The problem is, Argentina has seen success in this tournament while playing in Chile, according to ESPN Stats & Info.Chile has an attacking duo that has proved to be one of the best in the tournament. Arturo Vidal has been slowed down since a hot start saw him score three goals at the beginning of the tournament. Eduardo Vargas' four goals lead the tournament. Their output has seven of Chile's tournament-leading 13 goals.Argentina is packed with plenty of scoring power as well. Sergio Aguero scored his third goal of the tournament with a header against Paraguay in the semifinal, while Angel Di Maria recorded two in the same game. They have one of the most unstoppable forces feeding them chances in midfielder Lionel Messi. The Argentinians are also incredibly deep with the likes of Javier Pastore and Gonzalo Higuain capable of taking over a match. While he is no Messi, Jorge Valdivia has proved to be quite the engine for the Chilean midfield. His three assists are tied with Messi for tops in the tournament. But the 19th-ranked team in the world has not tasted much success in international competition, nor does it have the depth of Argentina. It will be looking for striker Alexis Sanchez to step up and make his presence felt in Chile's biggest game. Sanchez has just one goal in five games this tournament.Argentina is ranked third in the world and has plenty of big-game experience. Last summer, it was a part of the largest game on the planet, losing to Germany in extra time in the World Cup final. While it hasn't won the Copa America in 22 years, it has been one of the last two standing in 2004 and 2007, both times losing to Brazil. Both defenses are stout. Chile has allowed three goals in this tournament while Argentina has given up four. But Chile has not faced a side as talented as Argentina's. Chile's toughest competition, Uruguay, was without striker Luis Suarez and was a man down after the official sent off Edinson Cavani. It will not be able to hold down such a versatile, fast Argentina offense, who is hungry to deliver Messi his first piece of silverware in international competition.Stats courtesy of ca2015.com.
