Angel Di Maria Injury: Updates on Manchester United Star's Hamstring and Return

Published by Bleacher Report on Sun, 05 Jul 2015

Angel Di Maria's 2015 Copa America final lasted less than 45 minutes, as the Manchester United winger appeared to tweak his hamstring against Chile and had to be substituted.Continue for updates.Di Maria Leaves Pitch Against Chile with Hamstring TroubleSaturday, July 4The former Real Madrid star pulled up and started to limp after a long sprint for the ball, and as reported by AS English, he was substituted with Ezequiel Lavezzi just minutes later.Di Maria struggled in his first season at Old Trafford, joining the Red Devils from Real Madrid during the summer of 2014 for a British transfer record fee of 59.7 million, per the club's official website. After a bright start to the season, he struggled to replicate the scoring form that made him such a popular figure in the Spanish capital, and while there were flashes of his potential throughout the 2014-15 season, just about everyone agreed his first year with United was a disappointment. But his performance for Argentina during the 2015 Copa America gave hope that he was finding his form again, as shared by ESPN Stats & Info:This injury couldn't have come at a worse time for Di Maria. Not only will he now miss out on the chance to help his country win the 2015 Copa America, but he also won't have the opportunity to carry over his excellent form into the pre-season, where he could have impressed United manager Louis van Gaal.Van Gaal does have plenty of options to fill Di Maria's place, however. New signing Memphis Depay, Adnan Januzaj, Ashley Young and others can take up residence on the left wing, offering pace and incision down the flank should Di Maria be forced to miss the start of the new season.
