Cubs Pitcher Jon Lester Gets 1st MLB Hit After Starting Career 0-for-66

Published by Bleacher Report on Tue, 07 Jul 2015

After getting off to the worst start to a career of any batter in Major League Baseball history, Chicago Cubs pitcher Jon Lester has finally notched his first career hit.Lester entered Monday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals 0-for-66 in his 10-year career, and 0-for-71 if you include the postseason. To be fair, the 2015 season is his first playing in the National League. In his first at-bat of Monday night's game, the 31-year-old finally ended the decade-long drought.Lester (literally) singled off Cardinals right-hander John Lackey, a former teammate of Lester's, in the bottom of the second inning. The baseball never made it out of the infield grass, but it was a hit nonetheless.Ending the hitless streak earned Lester a standing ovation from the Wrigley Field crowd.Lester may never challenge Pete Rose's career hit record of 4,256, but at least he can now say that he has a hit in the big leagues, which means his career batting average (.015) is no longer .000.As ESPN Stats & Info notes, all eyes are now on Colorado Rockies pitcher Chad Bettis:[MLB.com]
