Allen Hurns Injury: Updates on Jaguars Star's Hip Injury and Return

Published by Bleacher Report on Sat, 29 Aug 2015

After bursting onto the scene last season as an undrafted rookie, Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Allen Hurns is dealing with some uncertainty due to hip trouble that caused him to leave the team's third preseason game.Continue for updates.Hurns Out with Hip TightnessFriday, August 28The Jags entered the season with some question marks regarding their depth at wideout, and the whispers will only get louder now with Hurns ailing.According to Ryan O'Halloran of theFlorida Times-Union, the 23-year-old pass-catcher left Saturday night's game against the Detroit Lions with hip tightness. While expectations were fairly high for fellow rookies Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee last season, it was Hurns who led Jacksonville in receiving, with 51 catches for 677 yards and six touchdowns. He developed chemistry with quarterback Blake Bortles, and they looked to carry that rapport into 2015.Per Bleacher Report SXM, the 6'3" receiver was thrilled about the possibility of reaching the next level because of Bortles' continued development:He also believed the implementation of new offensive coordinator Greg Olson's free-wheeling offense would help the team as a whole, according to Ryan O'Halloran of theFlorida Times-Union."I'm feeling really confident out there making plays," Hurns said. "I just feel really good in this system. [Olson]has done a great job of opening things up to letting us run different routes. It's a fun offense to play in."Though it is unclear if he will miss any time, now more of the burden will fall on his counterparts if he is forced to miss some action.Jacksonville's biggest addition during the offseason was tight end Julius Thomas, who was previously one of the Denver Broncos' biggest threats and mismatches, thanks to his blend of size and athleticism. He is also experiencing injury problems as he attempts to return by the regular-season opener after breaking his hand. While the Jags' other wide receivers will have to pick up the slack in Hurns' stead, Thomas is likely to cement himself as Bortles' No. 1 option because of his game-breaking ability if he manages to return. But for now, another receiver will have to reveal himself during the preseason. The Jaguars are a team that relies on young playmakers, and Hurns is among their best options in that regard. Potentially playing without him is far from ideal, but it will give Jacksonville's other up-and-comers an opportunity to cement themselves as capable players in the meantime.Follow @MikeChiari on Twitter.
