Arsenal Transfer News: Latest on Daniele Rugani, Gedion Zelalem, Top Rumours

Published by Bleacher Report on Tue, 01 Dec 2015

Arsenal's hopes of landing Juventus defender Daniele Rugani have been dashed after Bianconeri general manager Giuseppe Marotta reaffirmed the youngster has a long-term future with the club. According to the Daily Telegraph, the centre-back is a target for the Gunners, but per Football Italia, Marotta told Radio Sportiva:"Were extremely pleased [with him].He has champions in his position though, its hard to force his way in. But he embodies the spirit of this club, a sense of belonging, playing in the Champions League.Hell be a protagonist in the coming years. His chance will come."The 21-year-old was brought in over the summer after an outstanding campaign with Empoli, but he has thus far featured for just two minutes this season.Arsenal have been one of the most solid teams in the Premier League this year with just 12 goals conceded, but defeats to the likes of Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos in the Champions League and West Bromwich Albion, not to mention their humiliation by Bayern Munich, indicate there is still an air of vulnerability about them.Rugani is certainly a player who could help eliminate that. BeIN Sports' Matteo Bonetti is a big fan of the youngster:Juve, it seems, are well aware of the defender's considerable potential, though, so they simply won't allow Rugani to depart the club permanently.Given his struggle to get on the pitch, Arsenal may be able to negotiate a loan deal for him, but that's as much as Juventus might realistically allow. The Gunners could also use some reinforcement in the midfield after seeing 10 first-team players suffer injuries, including midfielders Francis Coquelin, Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky.Arsenal won't be turning to on-loan star Gedion Zelalem, though. The youngster has impressed with five assists at Rangers this season, but according to Kenny MacDonald of the Scottish Sun, the club are closing in on an extension to his deal that will see him remain atIbroxStadium for the rest of the season.Rangers manager Mark Warburton said: "Were almost there with Gedion and hopefully hell be with us for the rest of the season.I thought he was tremendous against St Mirren last Saturday, hes working hard and is in good shape."Rather, they could be turning to Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to Benjamin Peroleau of French outletBuzzsport (h/t Bruce Archer of the DailyExpress). The 20-year-old has started just seven of his 12 appearances this season as he finds himself behind PSG's more accomplished stars, such as Marco Verratti and Thiago Motta. However, the youngster is a fairly impressive all-round midfielder with tons of potential, and he bagged four goals and an assist from 10 Ligue 1 starts last season. WhoScored.com shared his array of strengths:The promise of more first-team football would likely prove alluring for the Frenchman, so Arsenal may be able to tempt him into a January move. However, Les Parisiens have fairly limited options in central midfield beyond their first XI and Rabiot, so they may not be willing to part with him until they can bring in more cover themselves.
