2016 NFL Mock Draft: Post-Super Bowl Predictions for 1st-Round Prospects

Published by Bleacher Report on Mon, 08 Feb 2016

Sadly, Super Bowl 50 is now in the books, wrapping up the 2015NFL season. But it also marks the official start of draft season for all 32 franchises. The first-round draft order is set, from the Tennessee Titans at No. 1 all the way down to the champion Denver Broncos at No. 31.Here's a look at how the first round may play out based on the newly set official first-round draft order.7. San Francisco 49ers: WR Laquon TreadwellThe 49ers need a quarterback, but as Chip Kelly proved in Philadelphia, he doesn't necessarily need an elite quarterback to win. If Kelly and the 49ers don't fall in love with any of the top prospects, they won't force the selection due to outside pressure.Laquon Treadwell is the perfect receiver for Kelly's offense due to his effectiveness on short and intermediate routes.Treadwell lacks elite speed, but the Ole Miss product is an NFL-ready possession receiver and an excellent blockeranother trait Kelly loves in his receivers.13. Philadelphia Eagles: QB Carson WentzIt's too early to know which players the Eagles' new regime likes in this draft class, but it's safe to assume Philly will be doing its homework on the top quarterbacks over the next couple of months. As the team moves away from Kelly's outside-the-box strategies, it would make sense if the new regime went with a more traditional pocket passer like North Dakota State's Carson Wentz. While Wentz is a project, he has all the tools of a traditional strong-armed quarterback, which will likely intrigue the Eagles.16. Detroit Lions: DT A'Shawn RobinsonLions fans are in a panic over the potential loss of Calvin Johnson, and they are expecting this selection to be a wide receiver. But all the coverage Johnson's decision has received seems to have caused fans to forget about the loss of Ndamukong Suh.The Lions' interior defensive line was not the same without Suh in 2015. And to make matters worse, Haloti Ngata is a free agent this offseason.A'Shawn Robinson of Alabama might not be the next Suh, but he's a big, physical, run-stuffing lineman who would help solidify the team's run defense.20. New York Jets: LB Darron LeeAmong the top four players who took snaps at inside linebacker for the Jets in 2015, only David Harris is under contract for the upcoming season. The Jets desperately need to add depth at the position, which makes Darron Lee a strong possibility with this selection, even if the team re-signs free-agent starter Demario Davis.Lee is an elite athlete who made plays all over the field for Ohio State. He's among the most versatile linebackers in this draft class, which should excite Jets head coach Todd Bowles.30. Carolina Panthers: OT Jason SpriggsIf you watched the Super Bowl, this pick probably doesn't need an explanation.Panthers right tackle Mike Remmers held his own throughout most of the season, but he and the rest of the Panthers offensive line were embarrassed in Super Bowl 50.Cam Newton's mobility can mask the O-line issues in certain matchups, but the Panthers learned just how valuable a strong line is against a dominant defense like the Broncos attack.Jason Spriggs of Indiana is a fringe first-round prospect, but he would be an immediate upgrade at right tackle in Carolina.
