2016 French Open Odds: Djokovic Betting Favorite to Win Title over Nadal, Murray

Published by Bleacher Report on Mon, 23 May 2016

Top seed Novak Djokovic has never won the French Open mens singles title, as he finished second in 2012, 2014 and 2015.However, that has not stopped oddsmakers from making the worlds No. 1 player a heavy favorite to win his first championship at Roland Garros with -125 betting odds (bet $125 to win $100) at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark. The French Open is the only Grand Slam event Djokovic has yet to win during his career. Last year, it was No. 8 seed Stan Wawrinka who upset Djokovic for the French Open title. Wawrinka lost the first set 6-4 before winning the last three 6-4, 6-3, 6-4, respectively.Wawrinka is listed as the +1600 fourth choice to successfully defend his championship as the No. 3 seed this year, and he could meet No. 2 seed Andy Murraythe +400 third choicein the semifinals. Murray lost to Djokovic in an epic five-set semifinal match last year.Rafael Nadal has won a record nine French Open titles, and he is the +350 second choice as the No. 4 seed. Nadal last won it two years agohis fifth consecutive championship at the time and ninth in 10 years. He was the No. 6 seed last year and lost in straight sets to Djokovic, who beat him 7-5, 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. On the womens side, top seed Serena Williams is the +225 favorite despite never winning the French Open in back-to-back years. Williams topped No. 13 seed Lucie Safarova 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 to win it last year, which was her second title in three years and third overall.Maria Sharapova has also won the French Open twice in the past four years, but she has been suspended indefinitely by the International Tennis Federation after testing positive for a banned substance during a failed drug test at the Australian Open. The No. 2 seed this year is Agnieszka Radwanska, who would appear to be one of the top value plays at +4000. However, Radwanska was the No. 14 seed last year and got upset in the first round by unseeded Annika Beck. In addition, she lost in the semifinals of this year's Australian Open to Williams. The second and third choices, respectively, to win the womens singles title are No. 5 seed Victoria Azarenka (+500) and No. 6 seed Simona Halep (+600).
