Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 27 May 2016

Following the retesting of urine samples from athletes who competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, 23 were found to have tested positive for doping Friday.Steve Wilson of the Associated Press reported the news and added that the 23 athletes come from five different sports and six different countries.Friday's announcement came more than a week after retests found 31 athletes from the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing had tested positive.According to Wilson, Friday's findings included a 32nd "suspicious sample" related to Beijing as well.PerOlympic.org, International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach commented on the new findings:These reanalyses show, once again, our determination in the fight against doping. We want to keep the dopers away from the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. This is why we are acting swiftly now. I have already appointed a disciplinary commission, which has the full power to take all the decisions on behalf of the IOC.The identities of those who tested positive have yet to be revealed, but they will be banned from the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.The IOC's efforts to find dopers have been ramped up sinceRebecca R. Ruiz and Michael Schwirtzof theNew York Timeswrote an article regardingformerRussian anti-doping laboratory director Dr.Grigory Rodchenkov and his account of how Russian athletes who doped avoided getting caught at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.According to theIOC's website, the latest round of re-tests involved 265 samples, and further re-tests could be on the horizon.Follow@MikeChiarion Twitter.
