Published by Bleacher Report on Thu, 30 Jun 2016

Manchester Citysigned Australia internationalAaron Mooy from sister clubMelbourne City on Thursday, with the midfielder heading to the Etihad Stadium on a three-year deal. The Melbourne outfit confirmed the move via Twitter:The 25-year-old joined Melbourne in 2014 and was named the club's player of the year twice in his short time there.Melbourne also confirmed that, along with Mooy's departure, midfielderLuke Brattan has joined the Australian outfit on loan from City for the forthcoming season, whileAnthony Caceres has extended his loan deal with the club to the end of the 2016-17 term.Mooy made quite an impact during his two seasons with Melbourne, netting 11 goals in the 2015-16 campaign and breaking an A-League record byrecording 21 assists, per the club'sstatement.City chiefBrian Marwood said Mooy's move to Manchester is a great opportunity for the player:"Aaron is an extremely talented player who possesses the attributes we hope to foster and encourage within the City Football Group. With the unique model CFG provides, Aarons move to Manchester allows us to further expose him to a high standard of opportunities to ensure his professional growth."Fox Australia's Daniel Garb speculated that the Sky Blues will loan out the Sydney-born Mooyelsewhere, as he is likely to be low down the pecking order given the depth of their squad:As a creative attacking midfielder, he will compete for a spot in manager Pep Guardiola's squad with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Samir Nasri, Raheem Sterling and Jesus Navas.Previously having plied his trade at Bolton Wanderers, St Mirren and Western Sydney Warriors, a move to the Premier League will be a big step up for Mooy.He has proved with the Australia national side that he can perform on the big stage, as he has netted six times in 18 internationalappearancesfor the Socceroos, per theirofficial website.
