Arsenal Transfer News: Latest on Arda Turan and Wojciech Szczesny Rumours

Published by Bleacher Report on Mon, 25 Jul 2016

Arsenal target Arda Turan will be allowed to leave Barcelona in order to improve the Spanish club's transfer budget, per Spanish newspaperMarca (h/t Emre Sarigul of Turkish Football). The former Atletico Madrid winger joined the Camp Nou club last August in a deal worth 33 million; however, Turan has been unable to replicate his electrifying form for the Liga champions after being forced to wait six months to make his competitive debut.A transfer embargo forced the Turkey international to sit out much of Barca's 2015-16 campaign, eventually making his first appearance for the club in a 4-0 win over Granada in January. Per WhoScored.com, Turan went on to make 18 appearances in the league, starting on just nine occasions. Despite this, he still managed to score twice and supply three assists to his team-mates.Per Marca, Luis Enrique's Barca are now willing to allow the attacking midfielder to depart the club in order to shore up their financial situation after shelling out on the likes of Samuel Umtiti, Lucas Digne, Denis Suarez and Andre Gomes during the current window. This news will alert the attention of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, with Turan reportedly "unsettled" at the club, according to Richard Forrester of the Sun. The report claimed Arsenal's Chile international Alexis Sanchez has urged his manager to make a move for the talented playmaker in a bid to improve upon the club's second-place Premier League finish last term.European football writer Ed Malyon believes the signing of Gomes from Valencia may mean the end of Turan's career in Catalunya:Per Forrester, the Turk could be allowed to leave the club for a figure in the region of 20 million; however, the Gunners will also face competition from domestic rivals Chelsea for his signature.Elsewhere, Arsenal back-up goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will be spending another season on loan in Italy with Roma, per Football Italia (h/t Liam Corless of the Mirror).Per Soccerway, the Poland international has not featured for the Gunners in a competitive fixture since the 2014-15 FA Cup Final win over Aston Villa. After being sent out on loan to the Giallorossi last year, Szczesny's performances improved as the season progressed and earned himself a new deal in the Italian capital.Nicolo Schira of Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sportconfirmed the Pole would be returning to Luciano Spalletti's squad:Per Football Italia, the two clubs will split the stopper's 3 million-a-year contract evenly, with the 26-year-old's contract set to expire in the summer of 2018.
