An Ode To The Chibok Girls

Sometime in April 2014 in the dead of the nightThey came like thieves carting off our girls in frightScreaming out for help since none had the mightHelpless they were to the men disguised.The government of the day claimed it was a lieStating it was a gimmick concocted with bileThe government consequently failing to pryOur Chibok girls were left with the men in the wild.The government later believed to be trueThat our girls were indeed taken out of the blueHowever, time had elapsed making difficult the rescueOur girls in fright were left without a clue.The mad man Shekau subsequently began a rantMaking a video of the girls, relishing in their plightAll over the internet his voice was abundantBoasting our girls would be married off with delight.Agitators and protesters made a standWe came out in droves with our demandsUnder the sun and rain we wailed and criedStating #bring back our girls unharmed.Our agitations suddenly went viralAll over the world our cries became pluralCelebrities worldwide joined in Boko Harams disapproval#Bring back our girls the world screamed in avowal.Our girls were later said to be spottedIn places none of us ever anticipatedIn C.A.R, Cameroon, Chad it was reportedThe sightings later ended up refuted.News began making rounds of negotiationsThat our girls would be released after discussionsOur hopes were raised beyond imaginationOnly to be dashed after much apprehension.The terrorists claimed the negotiations were fallaciousThe government wanted to redeem itself after being injudiciousHowever their act had already seemed viciousMaking many within the populace rancorous.The parents and guardians of the girls were relentlessAs they screamed out for help until they became breathlessRefusing to be cowed, displaying bravenessAs a group they stood steadfast showing togetherness.A military counteroffensive later beganOf their stronghold deep in the hinterlandWe hoped our girls would be brought back unharmedSadly though, our soldiers came back hat in hand.Excuses were given for the failureLack of weapons was painted as the pictureAlthough monies was budgeted for weapons by cultureIn many things Nigerian comes the Nigerian factor.Last year, government subsequently changed handsWith promises that the girls rescue was at handA year has passed since, still no signPraying and hoping is all we can.An offensive of their stronghold began once againMore equipped our soldiers were this time and with disdainPushing them out of territories they once reignedStill the whereabouts of our girls couldnt be ascertained.Hopes were raised again when one girl appearedLater reveling in the spotlight with Mr. PresidentYet another girl was reported to have suddenly emergedHowever, a hoax it was and consequently discredited.Change in leadership occurred with the mad menPledging allegiance to ISIS they claimed and laid bareShekau thought to be dead suddenly reappearedUndoubtedly, friction within their camp is evident.Another video has resurfaced of our girlsIn good health they seemed one could tellThough tears flowed freely as we watched themHope is all we have that one day they will reappearMilitary might it seems hasnt worked in our favorDialogue, negotiation and compromise should be the new laborThe government indeed needs to take a cue and reconfigureAs the Chibok girls in captivity are still awaiting their liberatorNow that there is apparent disunity within their ranksThe government needs to act swiftly, scuttling their plansCrippling them once and for all should be the aimAs they have caused too much pain.
