Adamu To Pinnick: Take Responsibility For Our Football Problems

Published by Leadership on Fri, 26 Aug 2016

A former Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Dr Amos Adamu, has charged the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick to accept the responsibility on the negative slide of Nigerian football presently.LEADERSHIP Sports can report that but for the heroic feat of the national U-23 football team, the Dream Team VI that won bronze medal at the just concluded Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil, Nigerian football has been on a free fall under Pinnicks NFF.The senior national team, the Super Eagles, have missed the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) twice in 2015 and 2017, the Flying Eagles have been bundled out of U-20 AFCON in Zambia next year by their Sudanese counterparts while Nigeriens U-17 team added more salt to injury when they eliminated world champions, the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria from 2017 Madagascar U-17 championship just last weekend.Adamu who was speaking with the sporting press in Abuja on Wednesday said this is the worst era of our football. Amaju Pinnick should take responsibility for his actions and inactions which has taken our football to where we are today. I took Nigerian football to 5th place in the world but we are nowhere to be found today. We are not known to resign in this clime but as an administrator, you must take charge and know what you are doing. The former CAF and FIFA Executive Committee member however commended Team Nigeria to Rio for representing the country very well. He said government need to do more in the area of athletes welfare to encourage them to achieve podium success during international outings.I must commend our athletes for their efforts in Rio. You dont win every time but we must do the needful to go back to where we were and redeem our sporting image globally, he said.Adamu was skeptical on Nigeria World Cup chances in 2018 saying it would be difficult to navigate the tough challenges against Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia to play at Russia 2018 with the new technical adviser, Gernot Rohr in charge. According to the former Sole Administrator of Nigerian football, We dont have a coach now; I dont know his (Rohr) antecedents and I think he will not damage our football before he leaves.
