Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Julian Draxler and Marcelo Brozovic

Published by Bleacher Report on Mon, 26 Sep 2016

Reported Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain target Julian Draxler expects new transfer speculation to emerge in the January transfer window but is committed to spending the 2016-17 campaign with current club Wolfsburg. Meanwhile, the Gunners are again linked with Inter Milan's Marcelo Brozovic. As reported by Alex Richards of the Daily Mirror, Draxler openly asked for a transfer away from Wolfsburg during the summer, leading to plenty of links with both PSG and Arsenal. A standoff with Die Wolfe developed, but the Germany international was told he would not be sold just one year after he made the move to the Volkswagen Arena. The speculation has died down since then, helped by Draxler's commitment to the club on the pitch. As shared by OptaFranz, the speculation did not impact his start to the Bundesliga season:The 23-year-old has now committed his immediate future to the club but also made it clear that his focus on Wolfsburg will only last until next summer. Speaking at a fan event, he said, per Richards:We had disagreements. But from September 1, it was clear that we could only go in one direction. Now it no longer matters. There will probably be speculation again in January, but I won't be the one to start them. My head is fully focused. I play towards the summer, trying to help the club. ...We work professionally together. I am part of the team, just like everyone else.We have our differences set aside, working towards a common goal.According to the report, Draxler's contract contains a hefty release clause, said to be 62 million, that will kick in next summer. His value spiked during the 2016 summer transfer window following a great showing at UEFA Euro 2016, where he played a key role for the German national team.Frequent injuries have slowed down Draxler's career in the past, but when he's fully fit and on form, the tricky winger is a versatile weapon. He's a great dribbler with solid athleticism and excellent vision and has the passing range to make things happen in the attacking third. Here's a look at some of his highlights:He's not a frequent scorerhe's only cracked the 10-goal mark once in the Bundesliga, per WhoScored.combut he does a great job creating for his team-mates. Draxler is at his best as part of a fluent attack where all the parts are moving, like the one Die Mannschaft uses. At Arsenal, he would likely see most of his minutes on the left or right wing playing alongside compatriot Mesut Ozil.Wolfsburg are unlikely to sanction a sale in January, particularly after these latest comments. They'll have the clause set to kick in next summer to work with, and clubs are expected to make offers close to that figure for Draxler.Elsewhere, Fox Sports (h/t Calciomercato's Steve Mitchell) reported that Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur will battle for Inter's Brozovic in January, with the Croat expected to leave the club when the transfer window opens.Brozovic has fallen out with the Nerazzurri and has barely featured for the club since Frank de Boer became manager. Club icon Javier Zanetti weighed in on the situation and used some harsh words, per Calciomercatocom(En):The Croatia international has been linked with a move away from the club ever since he first joined Inter, thanks to his solid start in Serie A. Speculation persisted during the summer, but Inter kept hold of the versatile midfielder.Barely one month later, a split seems inevitable. The Nerazzurri have won three of their last four in Serie A, including a win over rivals Juventus, and De Boer is as popular as ever in the Italian fashion capital. If the club has to choose between the coach and Brozovic, the 23-year-old will lose out every time. Here's a look at some of his highlights:Brozovic has impressive potential as a winger or central midfielder, but consistency has been a major issue in the past. He hasn't done enough to warrant a starting position with Inter, and some of his worst performances have been reserved for the biggest matches. That lowers his value, but he could be a major steal in January if he makes good on his remarkable potential.
