As a result, cells are better insulated against aging.The study, published Wednesday in theJournal of Investigative Dermatology, measured the length of white blood cell telomeres in 1,205 twins from the TwinsUK cohort. A quarter of the twins reported having experienced acne in their lifetime.Dr. Simone Ribero, a dermatologist from the Department of Twin Research and Genetic Epidemiology at Kings College, said in a written release from the college: For many years dermatologists have identified that the skin of acne sufferers appears to age more slowly than in those who have not experienced any acne in their lifetime. Whilst this has been observed in clinical settings, the cause of this was previously unclear.But now, according to Ribero, research suggests that the cause may be due to the fact that the length of telomeres is different in acne sufferers ' so much so that their cells are better guarded against the usual deterioration that comes with growing older.Dermatologists have long noted that the skin of those with spotty faces appears to age more slowly than the skin of those who havent experienced acne. Indeed, wrinkles and other marks of aging often manifest themselves much later in people with acne.
