2016 MTN Cup: Almat Edges Closer To General Hassan Trophy

Published by Leadership on Fri, 21 Oct 2016

Action in the 2016 MTN African Patrons Cup continued yesterday, as Maurice Ekpenyong and his Almat trioIbrahim Musa, Idris Badamasi and Malik Badamasistrolled past Kaduna DeeBee Farms 7-4 1/2 to become the first team to qualify for the final of the General Hassan Cup.The four-some, still euphoric from their easy 6-2 1/2 victory over city rivals Trade Mark in their opening game on Monday, denied the Famers (made up of Farouk Dangiwa, Mubarak Dangiwa, Lawal Mohammed and Yusuf Garba ), thanks to sublime display of team-work.Following that loss, DeeBee Farms would have to wait for their last group game against Trade Mark today, Friday, in a game of redemption, as the six teams chase the medium-goal title. The days second match between Amana Insurance and Liberty FM was a much closer affair, as national team player Bello Buba masterfully pivoted the insurers to a 8-7win, eliminating the hard-fighting Liberty FM quartetBuhari Mahdi, Hassan Ramalan, Aliyu Tijani and Muktar Adhama from the tournament.Meanwhile, the race for the high-goal African Patrons Cup would get hotter, as Kano Titans, who had earlier lost 2-8 to Abuja Rubicon in their opening game would throw all they got in the duel against Fifth Chukker, in order to stay in the tournament. Rubicon currently sit atop this five-team league, following the 8-8 cracker between Abuja Lintex and Keffi Ponys.
