Air Force Games: All Set for Katsina 2016Masari

The Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari, has confirmed that, in spite of initial fears that the Nigeria Air Force Games would not hold, the state has concluded all arrangements to successfully host this years edition of the sport fiesta, dubbed Katsina 2016, scheduled to commence tomorrow, Tuesday.Speaking shortly after the final inspection of the venues and pitches selected for the competition in Katsina metropolis, Masari expressed satisfaction with his administrations efforts to improve sporting facilities and other requirement for the games.I think we have been on this in the last two months or so; we are quite ready and prepared. We have achieved over 90 per cent of what is required to make the games successful, he added.Besides improving on the existing infrastructure, he added, the state had availed new facilities and accommodation for efficient sporting activities and welfare of the contingents from the various battalions.The governor promised the athletes that they would find the people of Katsina warm and hospitable, just as he advised the people of the state to represent all that the state stands for, in order to win the hearts of the august visitors to the ancient city.Masari toured the Katsina Club Sports Complex, where he examined the training and tournament courts for lawn tennis, badminton, volley ball, basketball courts, the conveniences and others.Similarly, the governor was at the old Katsina Township Stadium (Ahmadu Na Funtua Stadium), where he inspected the football pitch which would serve as the training ground for the football teams of the participating divisions.Conducting the governor round the stadium and, later, the 18-hole golf course at the Katsina Golf Club, the state director of sports, Nalado Iro Kankia, applauded the Masari administration for giving the venues for the games a visible face-lift and raising the standard of their facilities.The opening ceremony, some indoor games and football matches of the competition would take place at the ultra-modern Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina.
