As Destiny Beckons On Paul Orhi

Published by Leadership on Sun, 19 Feb 2017

All fingers are not equal so said an African adage. Even George Orwell in his popular prose story titled: The Animal farm, posited that all animals are equal but, some are more equal than others. Does it mean God is a bias God, a good philosopher and an analyst may want to know' God can never be bias.Because he is the commandant general of the universe. Nobody and no one can compel him to take decision. He chooses and elevates one and dethroned the other as he deem fit. This is true because, the earth and the whole planet is his own. That is why human existence is in categories. We all cannot be governor, minister, president, ambassador, music artist, journalist etc. while some of us are specially made, designed and equip by God to be a front liner, others are created to besubordinate while others are merelyexisting as beneficiaries from those who are striving hard to makesociety great, peaceful and productive. In this connection also, we all cannot be leaders according to Williams Shakespeare in Othello. The difference between a leader and the lead is the extra diligent, commitment, kindness, humility, generosity, determination and above all, extra fear for the Almighty God.Without pretense, Dr Paul Botwev Orhi possesses all these qualities and criteria described in Othello by William Shakespeare. To say Paul is a leader among leaders is like asking an ancient American and historians whether Abraham Lincoln, Delano Roosevelt and the likes of MartinLuther King Junior with Jimmy Carter really andthoroughly showcased unprecedented and sacrificial leadership during their era in America. In all ramifications,Paul is a born leader who is highly blessed and well equipped above comparison with humongous leadership prowess by the Almighty God and through his doggedness to treasure to conquer even when the mountain seem to be insurmountable. Paul is a man who believes in eat and give to your brothers. A detribalize culturally oriented Benue Man with friends across every length and breadth of Benue state and beyond. He is a friend of every Nigerians with immeasurable respect and high regard for elders, the average and the less privilege. That is why most Nigerian prominent personalities like Professor Wole Soyinka, the Noble laureate could even out of his tight schedule drove down toDr Paul Orhis house to reason with him on some national and private issues.Paul Orhi was born and brought up in Benue State. A traditionalist and a God fearing man tothe core.He is a Tiv from Lessel in Konshisha local government area of Benue state. Paul had his early education at Lessel and later proceeded to the prestigious St Francis College Otukpo and rounded off in flying colours. He proceeded to the University of Jos for higher studies and won a scholarship on a keenly competitive selection process to study Medicine in Russia in 1982. He graduated with an excellent result from Stavropol state medical institute, Russia in 1989 and was instantly given an opportunity to pursue a PhD with Emphasis in Chrono-Neuro psychopharmacology. Till date, he is the first foreigner to be sponsored by the school and to be awarded a teaching assistantship by that institution.Dr Paul was the immediate past Director General of NAFDAC and his sterling records are there for all to see. A position which he used excellently and greatly above expectations to ensure that most of the drugs consume by Nigerians were thoroughly examined and screened to avoid the loss of lives as it was in past. During his tenure, fake drugs business was reduce to the barest minimum. Staff welfare was also given a serious attention and his relationship with the general public was like that of a blood relationship, the result of which manyNigerians hardly can tell the part of Nigeria he hails from. Even till date, most people were still in confusion over his original state of extraction as a result of his openness, transparency, integrity, patriotism and love for every individual devoid of political affiliation, parental background, religion and tribes or ethnicity. Pauls level of achievements can hardly be captured in this small space. Prior to his appointment as the director general of NAFDAC, Paul was an expert witness to the federal government and the Kano state government in the lawsuit against Pfizer. The US pharmaceutical giant over the countrys Trovan drug trials in Kano. He also lectured at the University of Jos and a biomedical Scientist at the University of Texas, Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas. As destiny beckons on Dr Paul Botwev Orhi, it is my believe that he will most definitely channel his wealth of experience and knowledge to better the lots of his people at whatever capacity he has been called to serve. He has been involved in a lot of charity work providing scholarship to the students, distribution of relief materials with particular reference to the most recent in Agatu, Agatu local government area of Benue state. He has severally given back to his school, St Francis College Otukpo. For instance, he recently donated a brand new school bus, electricity transformers, computers, text books and a lot of other learning materials to the school. However, I believe that destiny is beckoning on Dr Paul Orhi is coming at the right time because oursociety need such breed at this trying times in our society for solutions.
