2017 Budget March Deadline Not Sacrosanct, Reps Tell PMB

The House of Representatives, yesterday, stated that the March 30 date proposed by President Muhammadu Buhari as deadline to pass the 2017 appropriation bill into an Act is not sacrosanct.Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity, Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas stated this yesterday during his regular weekly briefing.He explained that the weekly approval of new projects by the Federal Executive Council, is a major factor that could account for the delay, adding that those projects could be considered in the appropriation.As representatives of the people, we will look at some of the FECs approval to see how to accommodate it, he said.Although, Namdas promised that the House would do everything possible to pass the budget in good time, he noted that there are new developments which could delay the process.In view of this, we will continue to do our best to meet the 30th March deadline, but in case we are unable to meet-up, the date is not sacrosanct. Because of certain developments, for example, we have a very new budget software and it is slowing the process down, he stated.
