4-Star TE Prospect Austin Stogner Commits to Oklahoma over Nebraska, More

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 23 Jun 2017

Oklahoma picked up a key early commitment for its 2019 recruiting class Friday with tight end Austin Stogner announcing the Sooners as his college choice.Stogner confirmed the decision with a post on social media:The Prestonwood Christian Academy (Texas) standout is a 4-star prospect who already checks in at 6'6" and 222 pounds, according toScout.com.Stogner is still raw from a technical perspective, especially in terms of his route-running, but the physical tools are clearly in place. He's got the size and athleticism to eventually become a consistent matchup problem for opposing defenses. His commitment may be more important from the perspective of program stability, though.Lincoln Riley recently took over as the Sooners' head coach from Bob Stoops, who retired in early June after 18 years. His ability to land high-profile recruits like Stogner will go a long way in making sure Oklahoma remains a prime destination.Riley posted a message on Twitter after retweeting the tight end's commitment:It's always difficult to project exactly how a prospect will fit within an offensive scheme this far in advance. Stogner needs to focus on adding more power to his frame over the next couple years so he'll be able to handle blocking duties at the collegiate level. That said, if his development continues at its current pace, he's got the potential to become a difference-making player for the Sooners in the coming years.
