4-Star CB Prospect Jalyn Armour-Davis Commits to Alabama over Auburn, FSU

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 23 Jun 2017

Jalyn Armour-Davis thrived as a shutdown cornerback at St. Paul's Episcopal School in Mobile, Alabama, and he announcedFridaythat he'll continue his football career at Alabama.Per Ben Thomas of AL.com, Armour-Davis pledged to play for the Crimson Tide starting next season."He committed to the premier program in the country," his high school head coach, Steve Mask, told Thomas. "They are who they are. We are excited for him and the opportunity he has in front of him."According to Scout.com, Armour-Davis grades out as the 86th-ranked player overall and the11th-ranked cornerback among all 2018 recruits. He's also the top cornerback in the state of Alabama and sixth-ranked 2018 corner in the entire South region. And while he still has room to grow, Scout.com's official evaluation noted Armour-Davis already has the tools necessary to be a game-changer: "He has great size for a cornerback and he has shown the ability to play on and off coverage. Playing at the school he plays for, you know he will be well coached and well prepared. He has a smooth transition in coverage and he really plays the ball well."Armour-Davis' athleticism was also on display throughout his junior season, when he used his speed and strong hands to torch opposing secondaries as a receiver. There are few programs in the country Armour-Davis could pick to develop his skills that will be better than Alabama.Beyond the Crimson Tide's team success under head coach Nick Saban, the program has had players drafted to the NFL at alarming rates. They sent a record 10 players to the pros in 2017, with cornerback being a prominent position.Marlon Humphrey, Eddie Jackson, Cyrus Jones and Landon Collins are some of Alabama's recent defensive backs drafted.Armour-Davis will be joining a loaded program that competes for national titles every year. That can make playing time difficult to come by, but it will also force him to elevate his game to stand out under Saban's watch.Recruit information courtesy of Scout.com.
