4-Star OT Prospect Christian Armstrong Commits to FSU over Georgia, Penn State

Published by Bleacher Report on Mon, 26 Jun 2017

The Florida State Seminoles strengthened their offensive line Sunday, securing the commitment of 4-star offensive tackle Christian Armstrong.Armstrong announced his decision on Twitter:The Warner Robins, Georgia, native is the No. 21 offensive tackle and No. 274 player overall in the 2018 class, per Scout. He also ranks eighth among OTs in the south region. While Armstrong is far from the finished product, he has the potential to be a dominant blocker. At 6'5" and 335 pounds, he has the ideal frame for a tackle, and he'll likely add some more muscle as he physically matures. If his weight does climb slightly, then that would undoubtedly help him overpower defenders at the next level. The difficulty will be achieving that while still maintaining his above-average agility.Armstrong will need to be light on his feet in order to handle athletic pass-rushers coming off the edge as well as open up holes for his running back at the second level. After Warner Robins High School finished 3-8 in 2016, Armstrong told the Telegraph's Brandon Sudge he thought the team could turn things around in 2017 and that he wanted to help spark the improvement."Personally, I need to improve on my leadership," Armstrong said. "This year, I want to become more of a vocal leader. That's one thing I think we missed, having that one key leader we could all key in on."That kind of attitude will be music to a coach's ears, and it shows Armstrong has a desire to be the best version of himself.Since Armstrong is a work in progress, aslower introduction to the first string would work in his best interest. He'd have more time to benefit from a regular strength and conditioning program, and he could polish some of the rougher edges of his game. When all is said and done on national signing day, Armstrong may not be among the most heralded tackles, but he may emerge as one of the most underrated from this year.
