Former Ravens Safety Matt Elam's Drug Charges Dropped in Miami

Former Baltimore Ravens safety Matt Elam has had some positive news off the field.A week after charges of grand theft and battery in Palm Beach County were dropped, drug charges in a separate incident in Miami-Dade County were dropped, according to ESPN.com.He had been charged with possession and intent to sell or deliver cannabis as well as possession of a controlled substance.The Ravens indicated the now-unrestricted free agent would not return to the team following the February incident."We are aware of the arrest of Matt Elam," the team said in a statement, per Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun. "Matt is not in our plans for the 2017 Ravens."Elam was a first-round pick in the 2013 draft and quickly became a starter in the Ravens secondary. Unfortunately, a torn biceps cost him the entire 2015 season and he remained ineffective when he returned in 2016, appearing in only nine games while making just four tackles.He remains unsigned, although the latest legal news could potentially help him land a new job.
