4-Star SF Damezi Anderson Announces Commitment to Indiana

Published by Bleacher Report on Tue, 18 Jul 2017

Indiana has continued its recent recruiting run with the addition of small forward Damezi Anderson. The player announced his decision Monday on his Twitter account:Jeff Borzello of ESPN noted the impressive stretch for the Hoosiers:Per Scout.com, the 4-star small forward is considered the No. 88 overall player in the 2018 class and No. 22 at his position, including the best in the state of Indiana.Anderson has decent size for the position at 6'6" and has the talent to attack the basket and become a versatile scorer down the line, but right now he is best known for his shooting ability."The kid can stroke it and he can stroke it from deep," his high school coach Eric Brand said, per Nathan Baird of the Journal and Courier. "You cannot give him any room. And he's a betterathlete than I thought."He's got some speed and he can reallyget upand down the floor, but he's got a gift when it comes to shooting the basketball."The wing has a compact shooting form with minimal effort that looks similar to former Villanova star Kris Jenkins. It allows him to get shots off quickly even without much elevation.Even if he doesn't improve in other areas, Anderson will be a valuable contributor thanks to this single tool. With that said, he has good athleticism and a long wingspan that could allow him to make an impact on both ends of the court. If he also adds strength to his frame, his potential is through the roof.Indiana fans shouldn't expect Anderson to become a go-to option right out of the gate, but he should have a role as a freshman and develop into a key player before too long. Adding him to the latest additions in the 2018 class and Archie Miller is clearly steering the team in the right direction.
