106 Chibok Girls Resume School September

Published by Leadership on Sun, 23 Jul 2017

By Tunde Oguntola, AbujaThe federal government has disclosed that the 106 Chibok girls, who were released by Boko Haram insurgents recently, are slated to resume school in September, 2017.The minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Jummai Alhassan, who disclosed this during a special lunch organized for the girls and their parents in Abuja during the weekend, averred that the rehabilitation and reintegration programme organized for them would be concluded prior to their resumption date.Consequently, Hajia Alhassan said that the Chibok girls were rehabilitated, healed and fit to get back to school, to pursue academic success. The minister gave the indication that the federal government would keep all the 106 girls in one institution in the North-east.The federal government was in talks with the American University of Nigeria, Yola, to take in the girls in the schools foundation programme, she said. She, however, said that the management of the institution AUN had earlier indicated interest in supporting the education of the first set of 21 girls released in October, 2016 when the 82 were released this year.Hajia Alhassan explained that the government was disposed keeping all the 106 Chibok girls in one institution, the AUN, because it was the only institution with the foundation programme required to prepare the girls for further education in addition to the desire to give them the same standard of quality education.Since the release of the 21 girls, the American university has indicated interest in supporting the girls just like other development partners in the country. The UN systems are supporting the government in this rehabilitation programme. Other people too have indicated interest in the education of the girls. The American university is looking into supporting government in respect of the 21. So I told him that we dont want to give them different standard of education. He is going back to YOLA to discuss with his own team to see how they can prepare and accommodate all the girls, because we dont want to separate the girls. They are already here together, these ones will go to American university and other others will go to any kind of school or something. The post 106 Chibok Girls Resume School September appeared first on leadership.ng.
