Andrew Luck to Begin Colts Training Camp on PUP List After Shoulder Surgery

Published by Bleacher Report on Mon, 24 Jul 2017

Indianapolis Colts star Andrew Luck will get a late start to training camp this season as he will be placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, per Andrew Siciliano of NFL Network.Despite the designation, the quarterback has reportedly not had a setback from his offseason shoulder surgery. According to Mike Chappell of Fox59, the team is more concerned about his long-term health so there is no timetable to return, but things remain positive.Colts ownerJim Irsayinitially announced the surgery in January, which was set to fix a lingering issue that held him out during the 2015 season. While Luck was limited to just seven games in 2015, he started all but one game in 2016 while throwing for 4,240 passing yards and 31 touchdowns. His Total QBR of 71.2 was the highest in his five-year career. The recovery time from the surgery was an expected six months, leaving no assurances he would be healthy by training camp. Still, the team kept a long-term focus with their face of the franchise."We are not going to be rushing him," Irsay said in May, perStephen Holderof theIndianapolis Star. "We are going to make sure, obviously, that the shoulder has to be ready and the doctors are going to give full approval before he starts putting real reps on it. We really feel that he's going to be completely healed for the season and he's going to have a great season."There is still more than a month until the regular season begins, but even missed time in training camp could be damaging for a team that hasn't made the playoffs in the last two years.Although Luck is already familiar with his top receiving targets in T.Y. Hilton, Donte Moncrief and Phillip Dorsett, Indianapolis needs to make sure their quarterback is 100 percent prior to the start of the 2017 season.
