Adolphus Washington Pleads Not Guilty to Misdemeanor Gun Charge

Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Adolphus Washington pleaded not guilty toimproperly carrying a concealed firearm Monday in a Cincinnati court, per Mike Rodak of ESPN.com.The original misdemeanor charge came on July 9 when he was arrested at a water park.He will have a pre-trial hearing on Aug. 1.TMZacquired a video of the initial arrest, which featured an intense standoff with the police while Washington held a gun on his lap. The officer told him in the car afterward that "99 percent of the time" he would have been shot.Despite the charges, his attorney Clyde Bennett recommended a plea of not guilty."I don't believe that Mr. Washington committed any crimes," Bennett said, via Rodak. "That is why we have filed a motion to dismiss. Our intent and plan is to have the charges against him dismissed."The Bills said they were aware of the incident in July but wouldn't comment on the"pending legal matter," perScooby AxsonofSports Illustrated.Washington was a third-round pick in the 2016 draft and played a big role as a rookie, appearing in 15 games and starting 11.
