Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor Fight to Be Shown Live in Movie Theaters

Published by Bleacher Report on Wed, 26 Jul 2017

The highly anticipated boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor will be shown live in movie theaters around the United States on Aug. 26.On Tuesday, Dan Rafael of ESPN.com reported that the event, which will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, will air in select movie theaters. That broadcast will be identical to the Showtime pay-per-view telecast. Tickets to theater showings will range from about $15 to $25 compared to the $99.95 price for the high-definition pay-per-view feed. The special viewing experience stems from an agreement between Fathom Events and Mayweather Promotions, which have teamed up to provide similar opportunities for Money's prior bouts."The buzz that my fight against Conor McGregor is getting has been great already, so what better way to watch this larger-than-life event than on the big screen'" Mayweather said. "We brought boxing back to movie theaters eight years ago, and it was a huge success. But this event is on a different level, and I'm so glad we are giving fans another way to see all the action. Grab your popcorn because this is a fight no one will want to miss."Mayweather, a 49-0 five-division boxing champion, and McGregor, the UFC lightweight champion, recently completed a week-long worldwide media tour to promote the fight.Though it's unclear how the MMA star will perform outside the confines of the Octagon, the hype surrounding the cross-sport battle has continued to grow. The fight is projected to rake in $606.1 million in revenue, just shy of the $623.5 million made by Mayweather's underwhelming May 2015 superfight with Manny Pacquiao, per Darren Rovell of ESPN.com.Much of the buildup to the fight has played out like a movie script, as a relative unknown from Ireland who quickly rose through the combat ranks has earned a massive payday against one of the greatest boxers in the history of the sport who'll be looking for a milestone 50th victory. So, perhaps it's fitting their clash will be shown in theaters next month.
