Arron Afflalo Reportedly Agrees to 1-Year Deal with Orlando Magic

Published by Bleacher Report on Wed, 26 Jul 2017

Free-agent shooting guard Arron Afflalo and the Orlando Magic agreed to terms on a one-year deal, ESPN.com's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday.According to USA Today's Jeff Zillgitt, Afflalo will earn the veteran's minimum.Afflalo played two years for the Magic from 2012 to 2014. Orlando traded him to the Denver Nuggets in June 2014 as part of a deal that included Evan Fournier.Afflalo was waived by the Sacramento Kings on June 23 after they stacked their young prospect pool with De'Aaron Fox, Justin Jackson and Harry Giles in the NBA draftmoves that were in line with their rebuilding philosophy. In his lone season with the Kings, Afflalo proved effective as a supplementary wing scorer. Over the course of 61 games, including 45 starts, the 31-year-old averaged 8.4 points per game on 44.0 percent shooting from the field, including 41.1 percent from three.A good chunk of that long-range efficiency came on catch-and-shoot triplesshots Afflalo drilled at a 42.6 percent clip, according to NBA.com's player tracking data.Afflalo was also praised for his leadership capabilities during a trying and turbulent year for the Kings."It's difficult for veteran guys," Kings head coachDave Joergersaid of Afflalo, according to the Orlando Sentinel's Josh Robbins. "They always want to play in the playoffs. When the trade happened, we really felt like we were turning a corner there going into the All-Star break. So then things change and kind of go with a different mindset. He's been a great leader for us, been a true pro in not an easy, easy situation. But he's been tremendous."Now headed to the Magic, Afflalo projects as a positive locker room presence who can provide a steady stream of buckets off the bench. And while his numbers won't jump off the page, Afflalo's tireless work ethic and efficient scoring from deep should make him a valuable piece of the puzzle in due time.
