Published by Bleacher Report on Thu, 31 Aug 2017

UFC President Dana White said Saturday's boxing match in Las Vegas between Floyd MayweatherJr. and Conor McGregor drew 6.5 million pay-per-view buys in a conversation posted on Instagram by Mike Dyce of Sports Illustrated (warning: contains NSFW language):White offered the number during a conversation withUrijah Faberand Snoop Dogg.Dave Meltzerof MMA Fighting noted White was likely referring to the worldwide figurenot the number of buys in North America.Meltzer reported the "traditional" PPV numbers are expected to top those from the 2015 Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight in theUnited Kingdom, Canada and Irelandbut "not necessarily" in the United States. The North American numbers are most important for the overall gross because it was $99.95 here, while cheaper prices were available elsewhere in the world. Mayweather-Pacquiao did 4.6 million pay-per-view buys in North America and 5.5 million worldwide.Mayweather vs. McGregor is also "expected to be the most successful streaming pay-per-view event of all time, even with the issues UFC.tv had the night of the show and refunds they have agreed to offer," per Meltzer.McGregor lasted 10 rounds in his first professional boxing match, but Money won by technical knockout to become the only boxer with a perfect 50-0 record.
