Alvaro Morata Injury: Updates on Juventus Star's Knee and Return

Published by Bleacher Report on Tue, 22 Jul 2014

New arrival Alvaro Morata didn't get the kind of start to his Juventus career as he would have hoped, as the Spanish forward injured his left knee during pre-season training on Monday, according to the club's official website. The injury is described as a sprain, with further testing to take place on Tuesday."Spanish forward Alvaro Morata sustained a sprained left knee in this afternoons training session," the statement read. "His condition will be assessed tomorrow."The club is yet to comment on how much time the youngster could potentially miss, but knee sprains can typically take several weeks to heal.Morata was only unveiled by the club a couple of days ago, and he immediately made it clear how excited he was to get to work by hugging Beppe Marotta (via Emilio Celini):The Bianconeri paid 20 million for Morata, per Football Italia, although Real Madrid still hold a buy-back option they can activate from 2015-16.Fans couldn't believe how unlucky both the club and the player were when they found out about the injury:The injury was reportedly the result of a clash with backup goalkeeper Rubinho, leading to this rather sarcastic tweet from DiMarzio's David Amoyal:Morata will likely miss the rest of pre-season and the start of Juventus' Serie A campaign, but given the team's proficient duo of Fernando Llorente and Carlos Tevez, his loss shouldn't have too much of an impact. It's terrible news for the striker, who came to Juventus to find more playing time than he did in the Spanish capital. By missing his start in Turin, he could be forced to play catch-up for much of the 2014-15 season.Read more World Football news on BleacherReport.com
