Boko Haram: FG abandons female victim of Abuja attack 'Al-Mustapha visits her at private hospital

Published by Tribune on Thu, 24 Jul 2014

IT appears the Federal Government has abandoned a female victim of the recent Abuja mall Boko Haram attack at a private hospital in Abuja.Mrs Gloria Eze, who barely escaped death from the attack, was badly bruised by the shrapnel of the bomb blasts, leading to her above-the-knee amputation. The mother of four, who felt abandoned at the private hospital, Alliance Clinics Abuja, was, however, consoled by the visit of Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, a former Chief Security Officer to the late head of state, General Sani Abacha.Medical Director of the private clinic, Dr Christopher Otabor, who received Al-Mustapha and conducted him round the hospital, said Mrs Eze was referred to his clinic almost dead from the severe injuries she sustained from the attack.'So, she had an above-the-knee amputation. She also had an injury in the ear and as a mother fact, a CT scan of the bones showed that she had a skull fracture and she was leaking cerebrospinal fluid from the ear from a very long time, but all that have been taken of by experts.'Right now, she has recovered very well and just for her wound to heal and she will go home, all at the expense of the hospital management,' he said.He revealed that efforts to get help from the Federal Government as it applied to other victims of the blast proved abortive.Major Al-Mustapha, in his brief remarks, said the visit was to empathise with the woman said to have sustained the most severe injury in the bomb blast. He said the visit was also to see how his non-governmental organisation, Al-Mustapha Peace Unity and Development Initiative (APUDI) could intervene in providing some relief for the victim.
