AWC 2014: Uche tips Falcons for glory

Published by Tribune on Sat, 26 Jul 2014

Former Super Falcons coach, Eucharia Uche has tipped the senior national women's soccer team for glory at the forthcoming African Women's Championship (AWC) in Namibia. The six-time African champions will contest the biennial football showpiece Group A qualification tickets with hosts, Namibia, Ivory Coast and Zambia.Uche, who guided the side to AWC victory in South Africa in 2010, said the Falcons would only have themselves to blame if they fail to reclaim the coveted trophy in the Southern African state.'The Falcons will reclaim the AWC title in Namibia, they remain Africa's best side. I think we'll only have ourselves to blame if we fail to win the trophy.'But I'll advise we avoid the past mistakes of trying to celebrate victory before it comes, we should rather work towards it and ensure we've the title in our kitty before we let out the victorious songs.'I don't see any of their group opponents troubling the Falcons. Namibia, Ivory Coast and Zambia are no match or threat to the Nigerians.'The Falcons have experience and quality players inside and outside what the coach needs to do is to blend the players and fashion out a winning pattern and style that will unnerve the opponents,' said the former Ufuoma Babes of Warri player told supersport.com.The former Nigerian lethal finisher and coach of Bayelsa Queens noted that the Falcons 'must not take opponents for granted while the coaches must make concerted efforts to gain access and study their opponents past match tapes.'The Falcons have what it takes to head to the World Cup in Canada next year as African champions and go ahead to contest for the World Cup diadem'.The AWC will hold in Namibia from October 11 to 25 where the topmost three teams go ahead to represent the continent at the quadrennial global football fiesta in Canada next year.
