Barcelona Transfer News: Latest on Juan Cuadrado and Marco Reus' Possible Moves

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 01 Aug 2014

The Luis Enrique revolution at Barcelona is one that will have fans' mouths watering. With the services of superstar striker Luis Suarez secured and the new boss bringing an air of optimism with him to the Nou Camp, redemption for Barcelona's unsuccessful 2013/14 campaign is very much in the pipeline. To make sure that's the case, Enrique is looking to continue to improve his already impressive outfit and has two big names on his list of targets.Juan CuadradoColombian sensation Juan Cuadrado has been a target of Barcelona for some time, having put together a series of impressive performances at the World Cup in Brazil.A versatile winger with an expert ability to turn provider for a goal, it's not difficult to see why Cuadrado made his way on to Barcelonas radarchalking up four assists in the World Cup, per OptaJose:However, the Catalan giants' chase of the 26-year-old recently hit a snag, as Cuadrados agent, Alessandro Lucci, revealed that talks are no longer ongoing between himself and the clubper Tuttomercatoweb, via David Kent of the Daily Mail:I've been in direct contact with Barcelona and with other clubs. They showed interest but now there are no negotiations in place, not with Barcelona or any other clubs.Lucci's words will have alerted Cuadrado's other suitors that there's still a possibility of landing the Colombian, but it will come at a hefty price.Kent writes that Fiorentina sporting director, Daniele Prade, insisted that the only bids he'll be considering for his star man will have to be in the 50 million region. It means that Enrique will have to dig deeper into his pockets to bring Cuadrado to the Nou Camp, but it's difficult to see him being overly keen on the signing at that price. The Colombian would play second fiddle to Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar in Barcelona's front three next term if he made the switch, and while he can adapt to a deeper role in midfield, Barca have players to do that job to a world-class standard.Parting with 50 million for a player who could be limited to substitute performances makes very little sense, and Fiorentina will likely keep their man for the upcoming campaign.Marco ReusBorussia Dortmund's Marco Reus is another player who has come under Barcelonas microscope lately, and new developments in his transfer saga mean that he could potentially be making the switch to the Nou Camp next summer. As Toni Juanmarti of Sportreports, Barcelona have Reus firmly in their sights and are set to launch an attack for the 25-year-old when the curtain comes down on the 2014/15 campaign. As Bild revealed, via Juanmarti, the buyout clause in Reus' contract will be reduced to 35 million next summer, and Barcelona, among others, are keen to bring the German in.Like Cuadrado, though, just how essential Reus will be to Barcelona's cause has to be questioned, simply because Barca harbour Messi in their ranks. The Argentinian will drop deeper behind Neymar and Suarez next season, and while there's nothing wrong with deploying Messi as an out-and-out striker with Reus in the side, his impact is far less in such a role.If Reus adapts as a holding midfielder to replace Xavi when he eventually moves on, then the move makes sense, but once again it would be limiting a star's talent.Whether Enrique can engineer a place for Reus in his side remains to be seen, but he now has a whole year to think about it.Read more World Football news on BleacherReport.com
