Brian Banks Announces He's Taken Front Office Position with NFL

Published by Bleacher Report on Sat, 02 Aug 2014

The roller-coaster story of Brian Banks appears to have a happy ending. After the linebacker was released by the Atlanta Falcons during the 2013 preseason, Jay Glazer of Fox Sportsreportedthe organization was looking to keep him around the team in some capacity.A year later, Banks announced on Twitter he was joining the league's front office:Bryan Fischer of NFL.com explains why this is notable:Banks was a standout linebacker in high school and was set to compete for USC in 2002. Unfortunately, his football career was derailed after he was accused of rape, which led him to spend five years in prison, according to Ashley Powers of the Los Angeles Times. He was eventually released when the accuser admitted to lying in a recording. After being released, Banks was given an opportunity to make the Falcons in 2013. Although he did not make the final cut, he explained how important this was for him, via Daniel Cox of AtlantaFalcons.com:This has been a huge challenge for me and with that comes huge growth. I've learned so much about me. I've learned so much about my will and how much I'm willing to push hard for something that I want to succeed in, how able and well I am at taking directions. Just overall, having the chance of having a new familythis is like family to me here. I've learned a lot, I've grown a lot and I've received a lot from this experience. The journey continued until he was able to secure a job in the NFL office.Although Banks never got the chance to have his football career after being wrongly accused, he will be able to keep his life on the right track while remaining involved in the sport. This might not have been the path he was expecting back in high school, but the future looks bright for this young man.Follow Rob Goldberg on Twitter for the latest breaking news and analysis.
