Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Info on Ezequiel Lavezzi, Eduardo Vargas and More

Published by Bleacher Report on Wed, 20 Aug 2014

While Arsenal already have one of the more talented clubs in the English Premier League, they will continue making moves in an attempt to bring home a title. With almost two weeks before the transfer window officially closes, Arsene Wenger and company will do their best to bring in players capable of improving the squad. All of these additions could become necessary as the team looks to contend with Manchester City, Chelsea and others over the course of the season. Here is a look at the latest gossip surrounding potential incoming moves for the club.Eduardo VargasWhile Arsenal have a number of options capable of creating opportunities on the attack, there are serious questions about the finishing ability at striker. As a result, the club is interested in bringing in Eduardo Vargas, according to Tancredi Palmeri of beIN Sports:Vargas has not been able to consistently get onto the pitch at Napoli and has been loaned out to get more playing time, but he has shown his ability with the Chilean national team at the World Cup. In fact, new Arsenal player Alexis Sanchez is reportedly pushing to add his international teammate, according to Lee Hurley of Metro:The Chilean forward currently plays for Napoli and is believed to have told the Italian side that he wishes to leave this summer.According to a radio station in Chile, Alexis is keen to have the 24-year-old striker join him at Arsenalbut with the player already said to be in talks with Valencia the London club might have to move quickly. If Alexis believes Vargas can make an impact, Arsenal should believe him. The club needs a consistent finisher up front, and this is someone who can provide that in all levels of competition. On the other hand, this transfer could represent the end of Joel Campbell's time with Arsenal.Adrien RabiotIn a move that could be big in the future, Arsenal appear close to signing 19-year-old midfielder Adrien Rabiot from Paris Saint-Germain.Bruce Archer of the Daily Star reports a bid has been accepted:The Gunners have been chasing the youngster throughout the summer and, according to reports in France, the Parisian club have accepted their latest offer.[...]According toRMCthe bid is around 5.5m but there is also thought to be interest in Italy with both Juventus and Roma keen, but Arsenal seem to have stolen a march and will begin discussions with the midfielder at the start of next week.Rabiot is a defensive-minded player who has shown the ability to control possession in a holding position. OptaJean also notes he has been extremely successful going for tackles with his current club:With Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini both being over 30 years old, Arsenal need more options capable of filling the position to keep the starters fresh. With questions at centre-back, adding a defensive player is even more important.Although Rabiot will not become a first-team member right away, he is someone who can learn from the veterans on the roster and possibly become a key contributor going forward.Ezequiel LavezziWhile Arsenal are negotiating with PSG for Rabiot, it makes sense to keep the talks going in an effort to bring in Ezequiel Lavezzi.Archer first reported the winger was hoping for a new contract but talks have stalled. The chances of him sticking around have become even worse since manager Laurent Blanc said, "If someone wants to leave, we will not stop them. I have a strong and talented team," via Football Italia. If he does leave, Arsenal can swoop in to get another impact player on the attack. The squad already has top players like Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain helping out the first team, but any extra talent is a good thing.Bleacher Report's James McNicholas believes the club must sell one of these players before bringing in Lavezzi, but whatever it takes to have the best team possible should be done at this point. Arsenal have a chance to win multiple trophies this season and should not waste an opportunity to add players who can help.Meanwhile, Liverpool are also involved in the race for the Argentine player, according to Metro.Simply blocking a fellow contender might be enough of a motivation for Arsenal to complete a move in the coming days.Follow Rob Goldberg on Twitter for the latest breaking news and analysis.Read more World Football news on BleacherReport.com
