Arsenal Transfer News: Latest on Carlos Bacca, Alessio Cerci, More

Published by Bleacher Report on Mon, 01 Sep 2014

Transfer deadline day is nearly upon us, and following Arsenal's 1-1 draw against Leicester City, fans and pundits are expecting Arsene Wenger to be very active on the final day of the 2014 summer window. The Gunners have already had a strong window but still have needs in midfield and at the striker position, and with most of the top options no longer on the market, it will be up to Wenger to once again work his magic. Here's the latest buzz surrounding the Gunners' transfer activity.Carlos BaccaWenger was grilled by reporters about the potential arrival of a new striker following the match against the Foxes, and the French manager told BBC Sport (h/t to the Independent's James Orr) he was "looking for a solution:"Our attackers did well [today] but on the other hand they were not fantastic they didn't score. We are active in the window, we are working hard to find a solution. We try very hard. Nobody can ever predict what can happen in the last 24 hours. But if we had to buy a player every time you didn't win a game it would be too easy. In the Premier League it is difficult to win games. That is the way it is.According to Goal's Oliver Pickup, the Gunners have already identified said solution: Sevilla's Carlos Bacca. The Colombian is reportedly available for 12.5 million, a steep discount from his buy-out clause which sits at 27.6 million. The 27-year-old is an experienced poacher who can also create space for himself, and as a physical forward with strong technical ability, he fits what Arsenal look for in their strikers.Bacca lives around the box but has the athleticism to drift out wide and still be a factor. While he's far from a world-class option, he presents the Gunners with excellent value at this stage of the transfer window.StatsBomb's Ted Knutson likes his conversion rate, which is on the high end of the spectrum:The Colombia international may not be the star name fans will have hoped for, but for a modest price tag, Arsenal would be getting a proven scorer who would make for an adequate replacement for the injured Olivier Giroud.Alessio CerciItaly international Alessio Cerci will not be an option for Wenger, as multiple Italian sources (h/t to Football Italia) are reporting the forward is on his way to Spanish champions Atletico Madrid.Cerci will reportedly undergo a medical in the Spanish capital on Monday, and via Sergi Dominguez, a fee of 16 million plus incentives has already been agreed upon:As shared by WhoScored he was one of Italy's most complete forwards during the 2013-14 season:Cerci's fit with the Gunners would have been unclear, as the Italian does his best work as a second striker, playing off a more physical presence. His athleticism and dribbling skills often saw him excel out wide, where Arsenal already feature a number of top talents.Joel CampbellHighly rated youngster Joel Campbell will get his opportunity to prove himself with the Gunners in 2014-15, as Wenger once again confirmed he has no intention of letting the Costa Rican leave the club on loan. He told the Sunday People (h/t to Sky Sports):We have had a lot of offers for Joel and have turned them all down. There are plenty of clubsI dont know exactly how many because once I said to my assistants, He will not go out on loan, if somebody calls them they dont even tell me anymore because, when I say no, its no.But he is definitely a player wanted by many clubs.Campbell rose to fame during the 2014 World Cup, and his tantalising potential had fans salivating over the possibilities. While he never appeared a likely candidate to leave the club on loan, plenty of teams reportedly still inquired about his services, per Wenger via the Daily Mail. The injury to Giroud made it very unlikely for any attacking player to leave Arsenal during the 2014 season, however, and as Campbell has the versatility to play in a central role or on the wing, his contributions off the bench will be valuable in the upcoming season. The 22-year-old has spent his entire Arsenal career out on loan, but as it stands, he'll finally get the opportunity to prove himself at the Emirates in 2014-15.Follow @ReverschPassRead more World Football news on BleacherReport.com
