A3&O set to secure African LTE networks

Published by Itnewsafrica on Mon, 01 Sep 2014

A3&O, a telecom systems integrator and systems provider, operating in the MEA, is preparing to provide LTE security systems to mobile operators in Africa as well as key European nations.Stoke, a security gateway provider, has stated that it has signed a reseller agreement with A3&O. The agreement will provide Stokes LTE clients to its clients.According to A3&O, Africas LTE architectures are prone to vulnerabilities, therefore security has moved to the forefront for mobile broadband infrastructure requirements. In Africa, more than 10 countries have introduced LTE networks, including South Africa, Ghana, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and Angola.Driven by the need for more accessible broadband, LTE usage in Africa is expected to explode from just two million at the end of 2013 to 72.8 million by 2018. Africa is also expected to leverage its green field statusunhampered by older voice technologiesby introducing a variety of new business models to stimulate LTE adoption. Given the fundamental vulnerabilities of LTE architectures, plus the reliance by local telecoms operators on network sharing as a key expansion strategy, security has moved to the forefront of mobile broadband infrastructure requirements.Mobile broadband operators use an extremely diverse portfolio of LTE equipment and solutions, said A3&O Chief Executive Officer, Sameh Abdelaziz. In the African markets there is an intense focus on resource sharing to propel the LTE market. The exceptional flexibility and interoperability of Stokes technology makes it ideal both to meet the performance and scalability demands of fast-growing networks, and for securing a wide variety of infrastructure scenarios.Stoke is very pleased to partner with AA3&O, said Mark Verdun, Vice President of Strategic Alliances at Stoke. They combine deep expertise in the telecoms industry in Africa and Europe with enormous energy, technical skills and an innovative approach that is an excellent fit for the current market opportunity.A3&O and Stoke will exhibit at the LTE Africa exhibition and conference, which will take place from 11th to 13th November in Cape Town, South Africa.Staff Writer
