AWC: Super Falcons coach to submit final list on Sept. 29

Published by Daily Trust on Tue, 30 Sep 2014

The Super Falcons Coach, Edwin Okon, said on Sunday that the final list of the 21 players who would represent Nigeria at the African Women Championship (AWC) would be released on Monday. The team's Media Officer, Gracious Akujobi said this in a statement in Abuja. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given Sept. 30 as the deadline for teams to submit their final 21-member list for the AWC.The AWC, which is in its ninth edition, has been scheduled to hold in Namibia from Oct. 11 to Oct. 25.According to the statement, the selection process was giving the coaches problems even before the arrival of the invited foreign-based professionals.``The fight to make the final 21-member list for the AWC is heating up thereby giving the coaches selection problems even before the arrival of the foreign-based,'' it said.Thirty players were invited to camp on Sept. 14, but there are presently 23 players in the camp, NAN reported. The remaining seven players are foreign-based and have not yet reported to camp.``It is not easy to drop any of the players on ground because they are in the best form of their lives but it is mandatory to submit the final 21-member list.``I will still submit the final list of players on Sept. 29, so that we will know those to concentrate on for the championship,'' the statement quoted Okon as saying. The Super Falcons have been drawn in Group A with hosts Namibia, Zambia and Cote D'Ivoire.
