Arsenal vs. Hull: Arsene Wenger and Steve Bruce Post-Match Reaction

Published by Bleacher Report on Sun, 19 Oct 2014

Arsenal and Hull City were each left with a share of the spoils on Saturday after drawing 2-2 at the Emirates Stadium, with Danny Welbeck striking late to secure a point for Arsene Wenger's hosts.Steve Bruce may have counted his side unlucky not to take maximum reward from the trip to north London, but per Ben McAleer of WhoScored.com, the Tigers chief was left satisfied with his prize:The fixture featured a Man of the Match performance from Alexis Sanchez, who bobbed and weaved to open the scoring on the 13th minute before returning to set Welbeck up late on in the game.Bruce was also fully appreciative of the Chilean's penchant for such trickery, fully accepting of the manner in which Welbeck was allowed to score at the death, per Bleacher Report's James McNicholas:There was also some humility from the visiting tactician, who admitted the manner in which Mohamed Diame scored his initial equaliser perhaps wasn't completely fair, according to John Cross of theMirror:Arsenal were all over their opponents for phases of the game, but a combination of makeshift defence and a lack of predator instinct in attack ultimately led to their downfall.Wenger was rightfully left dejected by the draw, which sees Arsenal remain outside the top six and having won just two of their opening eight league games:Not only that, but the Frenchman went on to admit the importance of this fixture and touch upon the severity of the draw:It may be early in the campaign still, but with Chelsea moving so dominantly through their wee-by-week progress, it's now that the rest of the season will be shaped, not only in points total but in performance and squad-building.In that regard, the Gunners don't look anywhere near where they might hope to be, even in the face of a weakened line-up, and Wenger admits the points differential between his side and the summit is worrying:If there were one positive to come from the match, it will have been players like Aaron Ramsey coming back earlier than expected from injury, while Wenger confirms Jack Wilshere is fine to face Anderlecht in midweek:However, Saturday's result can't be seen as anything other than a shuddering halt for the north Londoners, who after last season's FA Cup triumph, may have expected a campaign yielding more silverware promise.Wenger's men now face a winnable stretch of games against Sunderland and Burnley, but having failed to impress against the Tigers, nothing will be taken for granted in the matches to come.Read more World Football news on BleacherReport.com
