Nigeria will not break up 'Bebor

Published by Tribune on Sun, 19 Oct 2014

Reverend Richmond Bebor is the Founder and General Overseer of Christ Disciples Gospel Mission Inc. Today marks the grand finale of the four-day Silver Jubilee of the ministry. EBENEZER ADUROKIYA brings the excerpts of a chat with him.How were you called into the ministry'I came into the ministry through the Church of God, Aladura in Warri. That was where and when God called me in 1989 that I should leave that church and start a Pentecostal church. So, immediately, that same year on October 3, I began a Pentecostal church.Based on a prediction that Nigeria will break up in 2015, do you subscribe to this assertion as a man of God'No. Nigeria will not break up. But I think that all the challenges are meant to strengthen the country and to give the country a new direction, not to break it up.Your church is 25 years old. Do you think you have fulfilled God's purpose of calling you into His vineyard'Yes. It has been well fulfilled because in this ministry, many souls have been converted unto Christ. Our main focus has been to reach out to the uncoverted souls through evangelism. Our main target is rural evangelism and we have been doing our best by God's grace. What are the challenges you have faced so far'I have passed through a lot. They are numerous both financially and spiritually and that is why we are not having a fuller congregation. What are your prospects ahead of your Golden Jubilee if Christ tarries'We want to have a befitting worship hall here in Warri and we are already constructing a new parish at Obi-Agagha in Otu-Jeremi, Ughelli South Local Government Area with a befitting auditorium still under construction and we also want to open new branches. What would you say about the gun-running and money laundering allegations against Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor'I would say that the man is a leader in this country and what they said about him is false; a made-up lie. They just wanted to tarnish his image. The aircraft crisis does not concern him; he only leased it out. So, it is those people's fault not Oritsejafor's. They should halt all false accusations against the man of God forthwith. What particular programme is your ministry noted for all these years'Besides the explosive Sunday worship service, Christ Disciples Gospel Mission Inc. is known for an annual programme which usually holds in August. Usually a 14-day prayer conference, the programme is as old as the ministry itself and God has been faithful in blessing and empowering attendees both spiritually and physically.Besides God, who do you owe your gratitude'We adore the King of Glory for his grace and anointing upon my life and my heartthrob, Evangelist Bosede Bebor, who has been a pillar of support. My gratitude also goes to my father-in-the-Lord, Reverend Dr Wilson Ofoluwafo, the General Overseer and Founder of Spring Trust Ministry Inc., who ordained me. I also honour the presence of God in the lives of His Grace, Reverend Triumph Etaghene; His Grace, Archbishop Dr V.E. Arikoro; Reverend P.K. Yoma and Evangelist Alice Ede, the church matron. I also greet and appreciate all my ministers, unit leaders and members of the church who have stood firm and contributed to the growth of the ministry all through the 25 years.
