Amosun warns, says 'we 'll not condone any act of violence

Published by Tribune on Wed, 22 Oct 2014

OGUN State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has warned politicians, irrespective of political parties, to desist from any act of violence that can threaten the peace of the state, ahead the 2015 general election.Amosun said this on Tuesday, while reacting to an incident that claimed a life and left several persons injured at Ilaro, the political headquarters of Ogun West senatorial district, on Monday.Nigerian Tribune reported that supporters of two senatorial aspirants in the district engaged themselves in a free-for-all, shortly after the governor's visit to Yewa South Local Government, in continuation of his tour of the local government areas in the state.Amosun, while addressing members of the party in Ifo Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday, said any aspiring member of the party, who engaged in any act of thuggery or hooliganism, might be disqualified by the national leadership.'In Ogun State, the era of violence is gone. I was told yesterday that something happened after we left Ilaro, we were there like this yesterday and I did not know that anything happened. It was when we finished and started going that I was told that some people were fighting.'Please, nobody should bring violence to Ogun State again. Violence has gone for good in our politics in Ogun State and anybody that indulges in violence in the state will face the full weight of the law.'I want to plead with all of us, nobody benefits in an atmosphere of violence. I have been saying this everyday, thank God we are doing the tour of 18th local government today, the era of fighting because you want to get to an office is over.'I have the authority of our great party that such people will not contest and will be disqualified by the national headquarters of the party,' he said.
