Arsenal Transfer News: Latest on Alexis Sanchez, Stephan Lichtsteiner, More

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 31 Oct 2014

Defenders are the order of the day when it comes to Arsenal's transfer plans for the January window, according to the latest reports.Injuries have taken their toll on the Gunners' back four, and Arsene Wenger is reportedly eyeing several full-backs to add depth to the squad when the market reopens.Star summer signing Alexis Sanchez has also been in the news, and the Chilean took to social media to react to some persistent rumours. Here's the latest transfer news surrounding the Gunners.Alexis Sanchez Debunks Claims He's 'Unhappy' With ArsenalAs reported by The Independent's James Orr, several sources claimed Sanchez is unhappy with Arsenal in the past few days, but the Chile international used his new Twitter account to reject any such ideas. In his first tweet since July, he posted a picture of himself cheering after scoring a goal in an Arsenal shirt:Team captain Mikel Arteta previously told the club's official website (via Orr) his team-mate feels just fine at the Emirates, despite the typical struggles that come with moving to a new country:It's a different culture and language for him so he doesn't necessarily understand what we are saying at some times but he wants to play football and I think he feels comfortable as well.Sanchez has had an impressive start to his Premier League career, scoring five goals in just eight appearances, via WhoScored.com. While the Gunners have struggled at times, the 25-year-old has undoubtedly been one of the highlights of the season. As shared by Rafael Hernandez, the original source of the rumours is La Tercera, a Chilean newspaper:The paper is notorious for drumming up stories regarding the best Chilean players, and they were seen as the main culprits of the long-lasting transfer saga surrounding Arturo Vidal and Manchester United with stories like these, as shared by The Sport Bible's Liam:Sanchez has only been with the club for several months, and during his short time, he has given no indication of being unhappy. Until he does, Arsenal fans should ignore these kind of stories. If he truly was unhappy, the British media would likely be among the first to get wind of such a development.Stephan Lichtsteiner's Contract Situation Opens Door for GunnersGianlucadimarzio.com's Serena Perfetto knows Juventus and Switzerland international Stephan Lichtsteiner are still negotiating a contract extension, but the Gunners have already contacted the people around the prolific full-back.Metro know the defender has a multitude of potential suitors, including Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Real Madrid, but with the Gunners in dire need of defensive reinforcements, they could make the Swiss a priority and offer him the best deal. The 30-year-old has been one of Juventus' most consistent players since joining from Lazio Roma, combining an incredible work rate and excellent defensive skills with impressive endurance and athleticism. As shared by WhoScored, his attacking contributions are very impressive for a full-back:Dimarzio's David Amoyal is also a big fan:Lichtsteiner is a perfect fit for Juventus, but the Bianconeri's inability to make a difference on the European stage and three consecutive Italian titles mean he could be ready for a new challenge.PSG have been tracking him since 2012, however, and the French champions would be the favourites should he not sign a new deal with the Bianconeri.Gunners Want Batuhan Yayikci, the 'New Gareth Bale'According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners have been scouting Turkish U19 star Batuhan Yayikci, an 18-year-old left-back currently plying his trade for Fenerbahce, and are ready to launch a 1 million offer.Turkish scouts have been raving about the youngster's potential for a while now, comparing the fast full-back to Real Madrid star Gareth Bale. He's yet to make his senior debut for Fenerbahce but is already regarded as one of the biggest talents to emerge from the country in years.Comparing any teenager to a world-class star is always dangerous, and one has to wonder how ready Yayikci is given the fact he's yet to feature in the Turkish top division, a competition well below the level of the Premier League.A 1 million investment is hardly significant for a big club like Arsenal, but it might be safer to let the teenager continue his development in Turkey and continue scouting him with an eye on a summer deal.Follow @ReverschPassRead more World Football news on BleacherReport.com
