Adrien Rabiot, PSG Agree to New Contract: Latest Details, Reaction and Analysis

Published by Bleacher Report on Sat, 01 Nov 2014

The transfer saga surrounding Paris Saint-Germain's super-talent Adrien Rabiot took a shocking turn on Friday when the club announced the prolific midfielder had signed a new deal with Les Parisiens that will keep him in the French capital until 2019.The news was made official with a statement on the club's website, in which the 19-year-old expressed his gratitude to everyone involved:I am very happy to remain a player of Paris Saint-Germain, the club that made me the player I am today.I would like to thank the president who kept discussions open in recent months and the sporting management for his support. It was here at Paris Saint Germain that I grew up and enjoyed my first experiences as a player. The club's project is ambitious and I'm very proud to be a part of it for the coming years. Now I want to concentrate on my football, on my game and give my best for Paris Saint-Germain on the pitch and for the supporters.Club president Nasser Al Khelaifi told the club's website how delighted he was that the youngster decided to remain in Paris:I am delighted with the contract extension of Adrien Rabiot with Paris Saint-Germain, for four additional seasons from June 2015. Adrien grew up here with us and I'm convinced we will live some great footballing experiences in the future, we see him as one of the best players of tomorrow. The central midfielder is widely viewed as one of the biggest talents to emerge from France in the past decade, and he was one of the youngest contributors to the PSG team that dominated Ligue 1 in 2013-14.The relationship with the club soured after his mother, Veronique Rabiot, demanded her son play more minutes in high-profile matches. Her continued involvement and strong-arming of the club became such a big storyRobin Bairner dedicated an entire article to the subject, writing for Goal.Rabiot signed for Manchester City's youth academy in 2008, but his stay in England lasted only six months before his mother forced a move back to France, according to Bairner. With Rabiot's contract at PSG running out in June, aJanuary transfer to one of the top clubs reportedly interested in him looked almost certain. As a result, pundits like Bleacher Report UK's Sam Tighe were surprised to find out the player has now changed his mind and will stay with the French champions:As reported by Metro, just two weeks ago he seemed destined to snub the likes of Arsenal in favour of an adventure in Italy, as he was talking up AS Roma. However, the transfer saga came to an abrupt end on Friday. PSG is still the best environment for Rabiot to continue his developmentand Bleacher Report's Jonathan Johnson knows there's even talk of the captain's armband in the player's future:Given PSG's incredible wealth, there's little doubt Rabiot's weekly wages will see a massive jump, and the club likely promised the midfielder and his entourage a continued increase in playing time.PSG's central areas are packed with talent, including Italy's Marco Verratti and France international Blaise Matuidi. With Rabiot added to the mix for the foreseeable future, this new deal likely takes the French champions out of the race for Juventus superstar Paul Pogba.Follow @ReverschPassRead more World Football news on BleacherReport.com
