AD lauds Tribune at 65

The Alliance for Democracy (AD) party has extended its warm greetings to the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN Plc), publishers of the Tribune titles and the management and staff of the company on the occasion of its 65th anniversary.In a statement signed by the National Chairman and leader of the party, Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa, it expressed with pride and a sense of history, its age-long association with the media institution, which has continued to distinguish itself as nobody's puppet, by sticking with the ethical and professional-practice antecedents of its founding father, the sage, Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo.'Like Awo and his jewel of inestimable value, Yeye Oodua H.I.D. Awolowo, who have distinguished themselves, Tribune has remained a trailblazer through their fair, reporting, thus enhancing unity and nation-building.'Just as Awo's political philosophy and ideological posture towered above those of most of his contemporaries, so has Tribune's practice of respectable and value-driven journalism distinguished itself among its print-media peers across the country.'It is common knowledge that unlike an increasing number of Nigeria's newspapers, who have willingly put their news reporting at the service of cynical politicians and dubious public causes, Nigerian Tribune's editorial and news leadership has maintained a notable independence of reporting in content and context,' the AD said.
