Capital One Cup Draw 2014-15: Semi-Final Fixtures, Dates for Football League Cup

Published by Bleacher Report on Thu, 18 Dec 2014

Following the completion of the final matches of the 2014-15 Capital One Cup's fifth round on Wednesday, the draw was made for the semi-finals. Premier League leaders Chelsea will take on Liverpool, while Tottenham will face off against the lone non-Premier League club, Sheffield United.Unlike the previous rounds, the semi-finals will be played over two legs, with the first ties taking place in the week commencing on January 19 and the second in the week of January 26.Here are the full results of the draw:Chelsea will be favourites to win this year's edition of the Capital One Cup after another strong showing against high-flying Derby County, beating the Championship side 3-1 on Tuesday. The Blues have lost just a single match all season and field one of the most talented and deepest squads in England, but that didn't stop manager Jose Mourinho from facing Derby with one of his strongest possible starting XI's.As shared by the club's official Twitter feed, he believed it was more than necessary:Liverpool snapped a three-match winless streak against Bournemouth on Wednesday, beating the Championship side 3-1 in a strong performance.Inconsistency has plagued the Reds in the current campaign, but when things are clicking, they have the talent to beat anybody in England. Sitting far from the European slots in the Premier League standings, the Capital One Cup may be the club's best chance at silverware this season.Former Premier League star Michael Owen thought the team looked excellent against Bournemouth:Fans may be upset they won't get to see the Reds and Blues go at it in the final at Wembley Stadium. After last year's highly entertaining match at Anfield that ultimately decided the Premier League title race, though, having these rivals face off two more times is not bad as far as consolation prizes go.Sheffield United are the only remaining non-Premier League squad left in the competition, booking their spot in the semi-finals with a 1-0 win over Southampton. As reported by Sky Sports, the match was overshadowed by a series of touchline incidents, highlighting the fact the club won't stand down in the face of the big boys.As shared by The Star's James Shield, manager Nigel Clough isn't afraid to make a statement, either:The field is completed by Tottenham, who decisively defeated Newcastle United 4-0 on Wednesday. And while Spurs haven't had the best start to the 2014-15 campaign, they remain one of the most explosive attacking teams in the country. On paper, Tottenham will certainly have the easiest path to the final, but Sheffield United showed against Southampton that they're not scared of mixing things up with some of the Premier League heavyweights. With the pressure squarely on Spurs' shoulders, the League One side will be hoping for a storybook ending at Wembley.Follow @ReverschPassRead more World Football news on BleacherReport.com
