...Replies Ajunwa, Igbokwe, upholds NFF elections

Published by Tribune on Sat, 20 Dec 2014

WORLD football governing body FIFA has replied Barrister Okechukwu Ajunwa and Ike Igbokwe, chairman, appeals committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and an appealant of the September 30 elections into the board of the NFF respectively. Both Ajunwa and Igbokwe had on December 10 petitioned FIFA on the verdict of members of the appeals committee which upheld the elections of all NFF board members elected in Warri three months ago, which Ajunwa's verdict contradicted. But in the FIFA replies, dated December 18 and signed by the secretary, Jerome Valcke, FIFA faulted the duo's claims on many grounds. One of these is that with Ajunwa's claim that as a lawyer, 'he is knowledgeable', that factor should not entitle 'the chairman [Ajunwa] to decide the matter alone within an electoral appeal committee composed of several members. The NFF Electoral Appeal Committee is not a sole man committee but a panel of several persons having the same voting rights.'The FIFA letter concluded by saying that it is of the 'opinion that the majority decisions issued by the Electorl Appeals Committee appear to have validly upheld in their entirety the results of the NFF Elective Congress held in Warri on 30 September 2014.
