Confusion over Ogun Central senatorial primaries

Published by Tribune on Mon, 22 Dec 2014

A group, Concerned Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Ogun Central Senatorial district, has said that the primaries for the senatorial ticket was inconclusive, just as it described as falsehood the claim by Dr Abisola Sodipo-Clark, that she is the standard bearer of the party. In a statement made available to the Nigerian Tribune and signed by Adewale Sogbetun, the group said Sodipo-Clark's claim was far from the truth. It said, 'The good people of Ogun Central will recall that the PDP state party chairman, Bayo Dayo, addressed a press conference on Sunday, the 7th of December, 2014, where he announced the postponement of the primary till Tuesday, 9th of December, 2014. On the 9th of December, 2014, the PDP senatorial chairman, Elder Amusa, addressed assembled delegates with the two aspirants present, that on the orders of the state party chairman, the primary has been postponed again and a new date will be communicated.'These statements were made publicly and these senior party officials are still alive. No new date has been communicated by any means to-date.'This was confirmed in various press reports and even an interview granted by the Administrative Secretary of INEC in Ogun State on Rockcity FM that the primary in respect of that seat was postponed by the PDP and no new date has been fixed,' Sogbetun stated.Meanwhile, Sodipo-Clark, insisted that she remained the authentic candidate for the senatorial district. She said this while speaking with newsmen in Abeokuta that she polled 185 votes while her opponent polled, Lanre Laoshe, polled 83 votes. She said, 'when the situation was brought under control and the hoodlums were cleared out of the venue, the party leaders decided to proceed with the election in keeping with the INEC schedule as expected.
