The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 69,376 prospective voters pre-registered online within the first seven hours of the opening of the continuous voter registration (CVR).In a statement on Monday, August 18, Sam Olumekun, INECs national commissioner and chairman of the information and voter education committee, said the registration portal went live at 8:30 a.m. and by 3:30 p.m. had already recorded tens of thousands of entries.According to Olumekun, 33,803 of the registrants, representing 48.7 percent, are male, while 35,573, making up 51.3 percent, are female. He added that 48,033 registrants, or 69.2 percent, are young people between the ages of 18 and 34.The portal is available 24 hours every day of the week at https://cvr.inecnigeria.org, the statement read.He further explained that the in-person registration option will commence on Monday, 25 August 2025, at 811 state and local government offices nationwide, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on weekdays. This will allow new registrants who prefer physical enrollment and those who pre-registered online to complete their registration. Both processes will run simultaneously for the duration of the CVR.From next week, the Commission will be giving weekly updates on the CVR, including detailed breakdown by State, gender, age, occupation and disability, Olumekun said.He also reminded Nigerians that registration is only open to citizens aged 18 and above who have not previously registered, warning that double or multiple registration is a violation of the law. However, he noted that transfers of voter registration across and within states, as well as the replacement of lost or damaged voter cards, are permitted during the exercise. The post 69,376 Nigerians pre-registered in seven hours of CVR - INEC appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
