EFCC stalls Daniel's trial, searches for more evidence

The trial of former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, was yesterday stalled at a State High Court sitting in Abeokuta as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) pleaded for more time to amend the charges it proferred against the former governor.Daniel, who was granted bail by the court on October 14, 2011, is facing a 16-count charge of fraud, stealing, illegal deduction of local government funds and false assets declaration. Though the case was slated for trial yesterday, it could not commence due to the request by the EFCC counsel, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), to amend the charges. According to Jacobs, the anti-graft agency needed time to make necessary amendment to the charges based on some facts later discovered in the course of investigation.
